A glittering icon in the horological universe, OMEGA is a statement that has created its own lexicon. It is a language spoken and understood by some of the most discerning people in the world and one of them happens to be the most famous British secret agent in popular culture. Yes, we are indeed talking about 007 James Bond who strapped on an OMEGA on his wrist in the 1995 movie, Golden Eye and has not been known to step out without it.
The connection with “Bond, James Bond”, is a source of pride for OMEGA and the watch brand celebrates it with joy. One of the most suave secret agents in the world, James Bond was created by the writer Ian Fleming in 1953. His growing popularity led to movies and JamesBond made his first appearance on thesilver screen in 1962 with the movie, Dr. No. Since then, every new Bond movie is reason for celebration for millions of fans across the world.
The new OMEGA Seamaster 300M celebrates one such occasion. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond movie, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and the OMEGA Seamaster 300M is a creation inspired by Bond imagery.
The new 42mm Seamaster Diver 300M has been crafted in stainless steel and it features a black PVD on black ceramic dial with a spiral-brushed gun barrel design and 9mm bullet head at the centre. This piece is limited to 7007 pieces and the side of the case features an 18K yellow gold plate engraved with a unique Limited Edition number.
18K yellow gold has also been used to create the hands and indexes, including the index at 12 o’clock, which has been inspired by the Bond family coat-of-arms. The Bond theme is recurrent because on the 7th day of each month, the numeral 7 on the date appears in the same font as the 007 logo. It is a fascinating detail and is guaranteed to delight James Bond fans across the world. In keeping with the legendary spy’s world of stealth, there is also a hidden ‘50’ on the 10 o’clock index, which is visible by night as a secret signature within the Super-LumiNova.
OMEGA’s new Bond watch is a Master Chronometer with a black rubber strap. It comes in a svelte black box with gun barrel patterns and bullet head buttons. OMEGA President and CEO, Raynald Aeschlimann, describes the new Seamasteras, “A fitting tribute to a classic Bond film and one of cinema’s most iconic characters. This extraordinary watch is elegant, full of surprises and sure to be extremely popular with collectors and fans of the character, due to its many Bond-related features.”
