When it comes to spectacular landscapes and natural and historic wonders, Jordan holds a very special place on the global map. This the land of Petra, the rose-red city and one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’, of Wadi Rum, a UNESCO World Heritage site and of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on the face of the Earthwhere one can float without drowning.
However, there is another aspect of Jordan which makes it very famous for a very contemporary reason. Its landscape makes it ideal for drifting. One of the fastest growing motorsports in the Middle East, drifting was pioneered by Japanese street racers of the Seventies and it evolved into a mainstream international sport by the early 2000s.
The sport has been gaining a lot of popularity in Jordan as well and the Jordan Tourism Board and Red Bull Drifting organised a video shoot there recently. Trailblazing football star, the goal keeper of the National Football Team and the goalkeeper of Bengaluru FC in the India Super League, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was one of the big-league names that featured in the video.
Sandhu is a Red Bull Athlete and he made his way to Jordan tolearn about the finer nuances of drifting from Ahmad Daham. One of the biggest names in the sport, Daham is a Guinness Book of World Records holder for the longest twin drift.
A Red Bull Athlete, Ahmad has won multiple Red Bull Car Park Drift Championships and has been crowned King of the Desert, twice.
The two champions had a great time taking in the sights of Jordan and drifting in style.
